256 TEAMS WC

About the project

A football “what if?” built at impossible scale

256 TEAMS WC is an independent browser-based football tournament simulator created and operated by Mohamed A.

Why the site exists

The original idea is deliberately excessive: what would happen if every FIFA member and enough invited guest sides entered one straight knockout? A 256-team field makes that idea mathematically clean. There are no byes, the champion needs eight wins and even the smallest team begins with a visible path to the trophy.

The site was built for people who enjoy football simulations, alternative tournament histories and reaction-friendly reveals. It supports slow, match-by-match viewing as well as faster whole-round simulation, so the same bracket can be a long campaign or a quick experiment.

Who makes it

256 TEAMS WC is created and maintained by Mohamed A. The interface, simulation systems, written guides and original 256 TEAMS WC branding are part of the project. Feedback from players helps identify confusing flows, missing data and new tournament ideas.

The site is not an official FIFA, UEFA, league or club product. Football organisation names, competition references, flags, club badges and player names are used descriptively and remain associated with their respective rights holders.

How information is produced

Simulation profiles, player pools and historical competition data are assembled for the purpose of the game. The goal is a coherent entertainment model: strong teams should generally perform well, different football roles should matter and upsets should remain possible.

Content is reviewed as features are added, but it can contain errors or become outdated. The site does not claim to be a live statistical database. The methodology page explains how ratings and randomness shape results, while the field guide explains the distinction between FIFA members and guest sides.

What the project values

  • Clear labelling: fictional simulations, guest-team status and unofficial historical replays should not be confused with official records.
  • Useful control: visitors can choose the pace, level of volatility and whether they want to manage a team or watch neutrally.
  • Respectful representation: countries and football communities should be presented consistently, with corrections welcomed.
  • Playable depth: new features should make the tournament more interesting rather than exist only to fill a page.
